NEPAL HIT BY TWO EARTHQUAKES, LEAVING PEOPLE INJURED

Nepal hit by two earthquakes, injuring 11 and triggering landslide

Oct 3, being Tuesday, two earthquake hits the western Nepal leaving 11 people injured, destroying homes and triggering a landslide blocked a major highway said by authorities.

The quakes, centered in Talbot and Chandpur, struck at an interval of about 30 minutes.

They were felt were as far away as the Indian capital of New Delhi, where people rushed out of houses and office blocks. Though, there  were no immediate reports of damage.

Police official Bharat Bahadur Shah said 11 people – seven women and four men – were injured and were being treated in hospital. One woman was missing after being hit by another landslip triggered by the quake, he said.

What we know so far

Nepal was then hit by an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 at 2:51 PM at a depth of 5 kilometer, tremors of which were felt in north India, including Uttarakhand and Delhi-NCR. Nepal then recorded two aftershocks at 3:06 PM and 3:19 PM.

In India, the earthquake tremors were also felt in Haryana’s Gurgaon and Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow. The tremors were also felt in Chandigarh and Rajasthan’s Jaipur.

Visuals on social media platforms snowed people in Delhi, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh rushing out of their buildings as strong tremors were felt in different parts of north India.

Delhi where massive tremors were felt, is susceptible to big earthquakes as it lies close to a Faultline, geologists say. The city falls in seismic zone a very high-risk zone. India is divided into four seismic zones, and according to the increasing intensity and frequency of earthquakes.
